Cultural and Social Factors-The same event can be seen differently by the people who follow different cultures. In some cultures eye contact is a sign of confidence, while in others, it may be seen as disrespectful. Social contexts and peer pressures, for example- if you're family want you to pursue your career in engineering but you actually don't want to do and then they convince you to go along with their decision that might not align with your own feelings, these shape our perceptions and often leading us to accept the things that we don't like.
From Darkness to Light: Overcoming the Limitations of Perception💡
The Role of Emotions-Emotions can greatly influence how we perceive reality. For example, when you are sad, you might even misinterpret neutral events as negative. Emotions cause physiological changes like increase in the heartbeat during fear that affect perception. I experienced several situations where my emotions dominated. I was sad for some reason and one of my friends was consoling me, I yelled at her saying " why are you bringing up all these things? you are not helping me instead making me even more sad". From her perception, she was trying to make me normal but for me it doesn't look like that and she was hurt by my words. Role of emotions is crucial, it restricts us from seeing the reality and yes, it is not easy to manage and control our emotions but don't let your emotions take control of you. Few practices like writing in a diary or if you have a friend who is trustworthy, talking with them can be of great help to manage emotional responses and provide clarity.

Overcoming Perceptual Barriers-Learn to question our perceptions, questioning helps in shaping our personality. Trying to see things from another’s viewpoint is one of the techniques that is essential for growth and it broadens our understanding. Developing the ability to understand and share the feelings of others helps in breaking down barriers. Let me tell you what I follow in overcoming the barrier- I do meditation, trust me this helps a lot in knowing yourself better and I listen to others point of views and think twice before putting my opinion forward and I prepared myself to be flexible in adjusting to the perceptions based on new information.
Breaking Free from the burden 🕊
Mindfulness and Awareness- Mindfulness teaches us to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment, helping us to perceive reality more clearly. Few practices that help in enhancing self awareness are meditation, deep breathing and observing your surroundings, these can make a lot of difference on how you perceive daily life and allow us to catch ourselves in moments of biased perception. I know it's not easy to follow these practices consistently because I've also been there. Start doing it, don't give up, it makes a lot of difference in your personality.
Critical Thinking and Open-Mindedness- Actively listening to different viewpoints can open doors to new understandings. Involving in open-minded conversations where all voices are heard and valued can further promote growth. Remember, it's going to be a long journey and I personally felt the first step was a difficult one, you might feel the same but don't worry, just trust the process and start to step out of your comfort zones.
🌟Do not get influenced by social media. It affects our personal perception, what we see online doesn’t reflect with real life experiences. I’ve come across a few people who were influenced by social media, it affected how they view themselves and their situations.
🔁 Start seeing differently, Live differently
Changing your perception won’t happen overnight — but small shifts lead to big changes. When you start questioning limiting thoughts and reframe them, you take back your power. The world around you doesn’t have to change for your reality to improve — you do
Conclusion
Perception shapes our reality and influences our thoughts and behaviors. By understanding and identifying the weakness of our perceptions, we can begin a journey toward greater awareness. Challenging our perceptions every time, brings us closer to a clearer view of the world.
